Babies, Babies and more Babies

After some struggles early in the winter with winter farrowing, we decided to go back to basics.  Leave out the heat lamps, not worry about fancy shelters and stick with what we believe - NATURAL!  That being said we are realistic enough to know that Mother Nature can be nasty at times, so we made sure to provide lots of bedding and private spaces for the moms to have babies, and that seems to be the magic answer around the homestead.

In late January we welcomed 17 new pure bred Berkshire babies!  So far they have all made it and are doing great!

Then February 1st we found one of our cross sows who we didn't think was due for another week or so had gone down into the chicken coop and had 8 beautiful healthy babies!

On Valentines day we welcomed 2 more cross litters, one of 9 and one of 10!  One of the girls we had put into a farrowing area, the other refused to go into the farrowing area so we had left her out.  Both are doing amazing!!
